Wisdom 13:1-9

For truly all men who had no perception of God were foolish by nature, and didn't gain power to know him who exists from the good things that are seen. They didn't recognize the architect from his works. But they thought that either fire, or wind, or swift air, or circling stars, or raging water, or luminaries of heaven were gods that rule the world. If it was through delight in their beauty that they took them to be gods, let them know how much better their Sovereign Lord is than these, for the first author of beauty created them. But if it was through astonishment at their power and influence, then let them understand from them how much more powerful he who formed them is. For from the greatness of the beauty of created things, mankind forms the corresponding perception of their Maker. But yet for these men there is but small blame, for they too perhaps go astray while they are seeking God and desiring to find him. For they diligently search while living among his works, and they trust their sight that the things that they look at are beautiful. But again even they are not to be excused. For if they had power to know so much, that they should be able to explore the world, how is it that they didn't find the Sovereign Lord sooner?

Day after day they pour out speech, and night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not heard. Their voice has gone out through all the earth, their words to the end of the world. In them he has set a tent for the sun, which is as a bridegroom coming out of his room, like a strong man rejoicing to run his course.

E come avvenne a' dì di Noè, così ancora avverrà a' dì del Figliuol dell'uomo. Gli uomini mangiavano, beveano, sposavano mogli, e si maritavano, infino al giorno che Noè entrò nell'arca; e il diluvio venne, e li fece tutti perire. Parimente ancora, come avvenne a' dì di Lot: la gente mangiava, bevea, comperava, vendeva, piantava ed edificava; ma, nel giorno che Lot uscì di Sodoma, piovve dal cielo fuoco e zolfo, e li fece tutti perire. Tal sarà il giorno, nel quale il Figliuol dell'uomo apparirà. In quel giorno, colui che sarà sopra il tetto della casa, ed avrà le sue masserizie dentro la casa, non iscenda per toglierle; e parimente che sarà nella campagna non torni addietro. Ricordatevi della moglie di Lot. Chiunque avrà cercato di salvar la vita sua la perderà; ma chi l'avrà perduta farà ch'ella viverà. Io vi dico che in quella notte due saranno in un letto; l'uno sarà preso, e l'altro lasciato. Due donne macineranno insieme; l'una sarà presa, e l'altra lasciata. Due saranno nella campagna; l'uno sarà preso, e l'altro lasciato. E i discepoli, rispondendo, gli dissero: Dove, Signore? Ed egli disse loro: Dove sarà il carname, quivi ancora si accoglieranno le aquile.
