Primera lectura

Exodus 1:8-14, 22

Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn't know Joseph. He said to his people, "Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we. Come, let's deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us, and escape out of the land." Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They started to dread the children of Israel. The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve, and they made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve. Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, "You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive."

Psalm 124:1b-3, 4-6, 7-8

If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, let Israel now say, if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us, then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul. Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul. Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the LORD's name, who made heaven and earth.

Matthew 10:34-11:1

"No penséis que he venido a traer la paz a la tierra. No he venido a traer la paz, sino la espada. Porque he venido a enfrentar al hombre con su padre, a la hija con su madre y a la nuera con su suegra. Los enemigos del hombre serán los de su propia casa. El que ama al padre o a la madre más que a mí, no es digno de mí; y el que ama al hijo o a la hija más que a mí, no es digno de mí. El que no toma su cruz y sigue en pos de mí, no es digno de mí. El que busca su vida, la perderá; y el que pierde su vida por mí, la encontrará. «El que os recibe a vosotros me recibe a mí, y el que me recibe a mí recibe al que me ha enviado. El que recibe a un profeta en nombre de un profeta, recibirá la recompensa de un profeta. El que recibe a un justo en nombre de un justo, recibirá la recompensa de un justo. El que dé de beber a uno de estos pequeños un vaso de agua fría en nombre de un discípulo, de cierto os digo que no perderá su recompensa.» Cuando Jesús terminó de dirigir a sus doce discípulos, partió de allí para enseñar y predicar en sus ciudades.
