1 Thessalonians 4:1-8
Finally then, brothers, we beg and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, that you abound more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don't know God, that no one should take advantage of and wrong a brother or sister in this matter; because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified. For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification. Therefore he who rejects this doesn't reject man, but God, who has also given his Holy Spirit to you.

The LORD reigns! Let the earth rejoice! Let the multitude of islands be glad! Clouds and darkness are around him. Righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne. The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the LORD, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare his righteousness. All the peoples have seen his glory. You who love the LORD, hate evil! He preserves the souls of his saints. He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart. Be glad in the LORD, you righteous people! Give thanks to his holy Name.

"Então o Reino dos Céus será semelhante a dez virgens que pegaram suas lâmpadas e saíram ao encontro do noivo. Cinco delas eram insensatas, e cinco eram prudentes. As insensatas, ao pegarem suas lâmpadas, não levaram óleo consigo, mas as prudentes levaram óleo em suas vasilhas, junto com as lâmpadas. Como o noivo demorava, todas elas cochilaram e dormiram. Mas à meia-noite ouviu-se um grito: 'Eis que o noivo está chegando! Saiam ao seu encontro!' Então todas aquelas virgens se levantaram e prepararam suas lâmpadas. As insensatas disseram às prudentes: 'Deem-nos um pouco do seu óleo, pois as nossas lâmpadas estão se apagando.' Mas as prudentes responderam, dizendo: 'E se não houver o suficiente para nós e para vocês? Vão antes aos que vendem, e comprem para vocês mesmas.' Enquanto elas foram comprar, o noivo chegou, e as que estavam preparadas entraram com ele para o banquete de casamento, e a porta foi fechada. Mais tarde, as outras virgens também chegaram, dizendo: 'Senhor, Senhor, abra a porta para nós.' Mas ele respondeu: 'Em verdade lhes digo que não as conheço.' Vigiem, portanto, pois vocês não sabem o dia nem a hora em que o Filho do Homem virá.
