Exodus 1:8-14, 22

Now there arose a new king over Egypt, who didn't know Joseph. He said to his people, "Behold, the people of the children of Israel are more and mightier than we. Come, let's deal wisely with them, lest they multiply, and it happen that when any war breaks out, they also join themselves to our enemies and fight against us, and escape out of the land." Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. They built storage cities for Pharaoh: Pithom and Raamses. But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out. They started to dread the children of Israel. The Egyptians ruthlessly made the children of Israel serve, and they made their lives bitter with hard service in mortar and in brick, and in all kinds of service in the field, all their service, in which they ruthlessly made them serve. Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, "You shall cast every son who is born into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive."

Psalm 124:1b-3, 4-6, 7-8

If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, let Israel now say, if it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us up alive, when their wrath was kindled against us, then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul. Then the proud waters would have gone over our soul. Blessed be the LORD, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul has escaped like a bird out of the fowler's snare. The snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the LORD's name, who made heaven and earth.

Matthew 10:34-11:1

"Não pensem que vim trazer paz à terra. Não vim trazer paz, mas espada. Pois vim para colocar o homem contra o seu pai, a filha contra a sua mãe, e a nora contra a sua sogra. Os inimigos do homem serão os da sua própria família. Quem ama seu pai ou sua mãe mais do que a mim não é digno de mim; e quem ama seu filho ou sua filha mais do que a mim não é digno de mim. E quem não toma a sua cruz e vem após mim não é digno de mim. Quem busca a sua vida a perderá; e quem perde a sua vida por minha causa a encontrará. "Quem recebe vocês, recebe a mim; e quem me recebe, recebe aquele que me enviou. Quem recebe um profeta em nome de um profeta, receberá a recompensa de profeta. E quem recebe um justo em nome de um justo, receberá a recompensa de justo. E quem der apenas um copo de água fria a um destes pequeninos para beber, em nome de um discípulo, em verdade, em verdade lhes digo que de modo algum perderá a sua recompensa." Quando Jesus terminou de dar instruções aos seus doze discípulos, ele partiu dali para ensinar e pregar nas cidades deles.
