1 Thessalonians 3:7-13

For this cause, brothers, we were comforted over you in all our distress and affliction through your faith. For now we live, if you stand fast in the Lord. For what thanksgiving can we give again to God for you, for all the joy with which we rejoice for your sakes before our God, night and day praying exceedingly that we may see your face and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith? Now may our God and Father himself, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way to you. May the Lord make you to increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all men, even as we also do toward you, to the end he may establish your hearts blameless in holiness before our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

Psalm 90:3-5a, 12-13, 14 and 17

You turn man to destruction, saying, "Return, you children of men." For a thousand years in your sight are just like yesterday when it is past, like a watch in the night. You sweep them away as they sleep. In the morning they sprout like new grass. So teach us to count our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Relent, LORD! How long? Have compassion on your servants! Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us. Establish the work of our hands for us. Yes, establish the work of our hands.

Matthew 24:42-51

Vegliate adunque, perciocchè voi non sapete a qual'ora il vostro Signore verrà. Ma sappiate ciò, che se il padre di famiglia sapesse a qual vigilia della notte il ladro deve venire, egli veglierebbe, e non lascerebbe sconficcar la sua casa. Perciò, voi ancora siate presti; perciocchè, nell'ora che non pensate, il Figliuol dell'uomo verrà. QUALE è pur quel servitor leale, ed avveduto, il quale il suo signore abbia costituito sopra i suoi famigliari, per dar loro il nutrimento al suo tempo? Beato quel servitore, il quale il suo signore, quando egli verrà, troverà facendo così. Io vi dico in verità, ch'egli lo costituirà sopra tutti i suoi beni. Ma, se quel servitore, essendo malvagio, dice nel cuor suo: Il mio signore mette indugio a venire; e prende a battere i suoi conservi, ed a mangiare, ed a bere con gli ubbriachi; il signor di quel servitore verrà, nel giorno ch'egli non l'aspetta, e nell'ora ch'egli non sa; e lo riciderà, e metterà la sua parte con gl'ipocriti. Ivi sarà il pianto, e lo stridor de' denti.
