Baruch 1:15-22
You shall say: To the Lord our God belongs righteousness, but to us confusion of face, as at this day-to the men of Judah, to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to our kings, to our princes, to our priests, to our prophets, and to our fathers, because we have sinned before the Lord. We have disobeyed him and have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God, to walk in the commandments of the Lord that he has set before us. Since the day that the Lord brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt to this present day, we have been disobedient to the Lord our God, and we have been negligent in not listening to his voice. Therefore the plagues have clung to us, along with the curse which the Lord declared through Moses his servant in the day that he brought our fathers out of the land of Egypt to give us a land that flows with milk and honey, as at this day. Nevertheless we didn't listen to the voice of the Lord our God, according to all the words of the prophets whom he sent to us, but we each walked in the imagination of his own wicked heart, to serve strange gods and to do what is evil in the sight of the Lord our God.

Ein Psalm Asaphs. Gott, es sind Heiden in dein Erbe gefallen; die haben deinen heiligen Tempel verunreinigt und aus Jerusalem Steinhaufen gemacht. Sie haben die Leichname deiner Knechte den Vögeln zu fressen gegeben und das Fleisch deiner Heiligen den Tieren im Lande. Sie haben Blut vergossen um Jerusalem her wie Wasser; und war niemand, der begrub. Wir sind unsern Nachbarn eine Schmach geworden, ein Spott und Hohn denen, die um uns sind. HERR, wie lange willst du so gar zürnen und deinen Eifer wie Feuer brennen lassen? Gedenke nicht unsrer vorigen Missetaten; erbarme dich unser bald, denn wir sind sehr dünn geworden. Hilf du uns, Gott, unser Helfer, um deines Namens Ehre willen; errette uns und vergib uns unsre Sünden um deines Namens willen!

"Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the judgment than for you. You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades. Whoever listens to you listens to me, and whoever rejects you rejects me. Whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me."
